Inspired by ancient rings that graced the hands of Roman Empresses, this is a piece to be treasured for decades and passed down through the centuries. A detailed braided solid gold band encircles your finger, displaying a substantial cabochon peridot in a handcrafted bezel setting. This setting is the same used by ancient goldsmiths from the earliest known periods of history.
In the ancient world, Peridot was only to be found on one island in the Red Sea. Heavily guarded by the Egyptians, this island was almost barren except for its rich deposits of Peridot. To even land on the island without permission earned the sentence of death. The ancients so adored peridot that they mined the island until it was completely gone from the ancient world.
Peridot, for many centuries, was known as the evening emerald because it is best viewed at dusk, when the vibrant green hues come out to play. In fact the ancient historian Agatharchides once wrote that that peridot is “invisible during the day since it is overwhelmed by the brightness of the sun; but when night falls, it shines in the dark and is visible from afar wherever it may be.”
‘If heaven would make me another world, Of one entire and perfect chrysolite (peridot)!
