Persephone is the daughter of Demeter and queen of the underworld. In the most familiar version of her myth, she is taken by Hades into the world below, while Demeter’s grief leaves the earth barren. When Persephone returns, life begins again.

But Persephone is not only the vanished daughter. She becomes queen in the realm that first received her. Her story holds two truths at once: the violence of descent and the authority that can be born there. She belongs to flowers and pomegranates, spring fields and the dead, the upper world and the kingdom beneath it.

Her myth gives shape to the old rhythm of loss and return. Nothing blooms without the memory of what went underground.
