Fairly made, fairly priced

The baroque pearl necklace is a timeless, foundational piece that everyone should have in their jewelry wardrobe. Each luminous pearl is unique, grown in the waters off Japan until it’s a plump little pearlescent soufflé. Perfect for layering with chunkier pieces, the pearl has a 5mm bail so you can slip it onto any other chain.

Our favorite historical pearl story is of Cleopatra’s competition with her Roman lover, Marc Antony, to see who could throw the most extravagant dinner party. Certain that he would outdo the Pharaoh, Antony piled rare meats on his grand dining table and poured expensive wines for his guests. But Cleopatra was unfazed.

Pearls were so valuable in the late Roman Republic that a single one ensured her victory. While her guests were drinking and dancing and enjoying her lavish party, Cleopatra caught the eye of Marc Antony, took a single pearl from one of her earrings, dissolved it in a bit of vinegar and drank it down, its incredible worth reduced to nothing in a single, indulgent sip.

Each hand-selected pearl is roughly 1 inch or 22mm long with a handcrafted 14k solid 5mm gold bail. It can be purchased threaded onto a 14k solid gold, 20 inch cable chain.

Why Solid Gold

Solid gold is for those who buy once and buy well. It will not tarnish, fade, or degrade; worn daily for decades, it only grows more beautiful. It is the right choice if you want a piece that lasts a lifetime or becomes an heirloom.

Gold has appreciated steadily for centuries and retains intrinsic value: it can always be melted down and reborn as something new. It is adornment that is also an investment.

Our solid gold pieces are cast using the ancient lost wax method and are never hollow. Every gram is 100% certified recycled, and every piece is made by hand in New York City.

Why don't you make rings in Gold Vermeil?

While we love the affordability of vermeil, it's not an ideal metal for rings because our hands are exposed to so much wear and tear.

Vermeil necklaces can last 2 - 3 years with proper care, but we've never seen a vermeil ring last more than 6 months.

We believe it would be wrong to sell these rings to you in anything but solid gold.

Does your jewelry come in a box or a pouch?

Necklaces come in a beautiful maroon box, while rings come in an antique-style velvet box.
